About Kotobuki-Jishi (Lion Dance):
Japanese lion dance, called Kotobuki-Jishi or simply Shishimai, has it’s origin in the ISE-province. At the beginning of the 16th century people started to worship a lion head carved in wood, called UBUSUNAGAMI, and later on they used to dance with it at New Year to chase away illness, starvation and evil. In the middle of the 17th century SHISHIMAI brought to EDO (now TOKYO). This ritual custom spread rapidly among the people of EDO, using it not only at the beginning of the year but also at many other festivities through the year to keep away evil and to give luck an happiness.
Others:
In addition to Kotobuki-Jishi, there are other performances (DAIKOKUSAMA: a god of wealth, HYOTTOKO: a clown) and musicians play flute, drums and a small gong.

c) Photos: 20:00 – 21:00.
If you want, please take pictures together with “Maiko-san”. It will become a good recollection in Kyoto.
Of course, you can still enjoy your dinner during this time.
