Nemko is one of the founding members of IECEE and has for years been the leading issuer of CB certificates for IT-equipment (IEC 60950 area) and the second largest for the different product categories overall. By now having our laboratories in UK, Germany, Italy, USA, Japan, (and soon in Korea) as well as in Norway accepted for CB testing, and in addition having subsidiaries in Taiwan and Mainland China as well as partnerships in France and Sweden, we are well positioned to serve our clients world wide even better into the new millennium. Nemko is an independent self-owned foundation with head office in Oslo. Nearly 400 people are presently employed in the Nemko Group, of which about. 250 outside Norway. The organisation is Notified/Competent Body under the European Directives for electrical equipment, and also offeres systems certification to ISO 9000 and ISO 14000/EMAS through the subsidiary NCS (an IQNet member). In former times the focus of this business was entirely on public safety. It has gradually shifted, and today our dedication is to be a service provider to industry, offering keys for their access to different markets. In this context, the CB scheme is a fundamental factor in the electrotechnical product area. As more and more countries have chosen to harmonise their national standards with those of IEC, the basis for international trade is expanding and the need for efficient conformity measures increases accordingly. A unique aspect of the CB scheme is that it offers eased trade, not only from and between the established industrial countries, but also from and between the less developed regions. Judging from the remarkable growth of this scheme during the past years, it has certainly proven to suit the needs of the international market, whether it concerns reduction in time and cost of obtaining safety marks for different countries or simply providing a highly recognised certification document for business-to-business transactions. As such, we believe that the inherent added value of the new CB-FCS (Full Certification Scheme) now being launched, will quickly be appreciated by the marketplace and result in further progress for IECEE.
